"The times you lived through, the people you shared those times with — nothing brings it all to life like an old mix tape. It does a better job of storing up memories than actual brain tissue can do. Every mix tape tells a story. Put them together, and they can add up to the story of a life."

This blog will document an ongoing practice-as-research project.
I am currently exploring autobiography, the re-presentation of "self" and storytelling in performance through 2 concepts: the mix tape & the DJ.

Alright, world?
I recently received a mix CD in the post from a companion and it's a real beaut.
As I prepare to return the gesture I would like to extend the offer to other people. So, if you would like to receive/trade compilations then get in touch with me via Facebook or Twitter.
Hell, you could even request a mix in person. (But seriously, as if anyone communicates face-to-face anymore.)
"Hey, Jen. How does this relate to your research project?" I hear you (no-one) cry.
Well, the making and trading of mixes is a form that I'm utilizing to experiment with my emerging practice, an opportunity to situate my own stories alongside songs. (You'll see what I mean if you get involved.)
The CD will be presented all nicely and that, not just shoved through your letterbox or thrust into your hand in a used bin-bag or anything, so what have you got to lose by asking for a mix? Literally nothing.
I look forward to making your mix.
All my love (well, some of it..)
Jen.
